Synthesis, Characterization and Antibacterial Activity of Silver Nanoparticles from Red Algae, Hypnea musciformis

In the present study, silver nanoparticles (SNPs) were synthesized using broth of red algae Hypnea musciformis as reductant by a simple and eco-friendly route. The synthesized SNPs have been well characterized by using various analytical techniques, Zeta potential, Transmission Electron microscopic (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR and further confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectrum (XPS). H. musciformis mediated AgNPs showed excellent antibacterial activity with varying degrees against Xanthomonas campestris and Ralstonia solanacearum. It was found that AgNPs synthesized by greener route have a greater antibacterial activity and may be a good alternative approach to control agriculture pests in future.
